QOTW: "... development on Pocket PC is a pleasure with eTcl!" - Pascal G.
"Anyway, my take on this is the same as always: for me, the core is Fast
Enough as it is, but it's Too Complicated. I'd rather see clarity
optimizations than speed/space ones." - Joe English
Thanks to Arjen Markus for his weekly summary of Wiki action, and my
apologies for the long delay in passing it on:
Time for another Wiki summary - let us just start.
User experiences
- Tcl module mechanism, new in Tcl 8.5, has a few properties that
may be difficult to use in certain environments. But otherwise,
it is great. <http://wiki.tcl.tk/12999>
- It is always fun to fool around with the language itself. If,
like in <http://wiki.tcl.tk/15422>, performance is much less
of an issue than you would think at first, it is even more fun!
- Eclipse support for Tcl may be tough to track down, but it is
there: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/19664> tells a few stories.
Experienced users
- One of those things everybody can build, but it is nice to see
a full-featured version: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/19724> lets you
run programs from a common window.
- As telecommunication is everything nowadays, let us see how
Tcl can be employed: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/11789> is but a single
page on the subject.
- Not everybody may be able to build their own window manager,
but everybody can have a look at the results of someone who
can: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/13972>
- Though few people may be able to put a nice idea into
elegant and short code, everybody can enjoy the results:
- Line numbers in a text widget? <http://wiki.tcl.tk/19724>
- Parse an expression like "1+2*3" (without minding the
details)? <http://wiki.tcl.tk/20904>
- A whole different ball game is the effective implementation
of continuations ... To appreciate the concept as well as
the latest implementation, see <http://wiki.tcl.tk/13232>
and its links
