Ford/Foyt V8 on the dyno, circa 1969.
When Ford dropped out of racing in 1970 A.J. Foyt acquired the DOHC Indy
engines and service business.
This is an early turbo setup in a Foyt Coyote Indy car. Aerodynamics and
packaging compromised the induction tract; it took a while to iron out air
distribution problems. Later engines made 825 HP at 9,600 RPM with 80 to 85
inches of manifold pressure.
The GT-40 Ford should have built - Jim Toensing's DOHC GT-40. The DOHC
actually predates the Ford GT project, but neither the Shelby Cobras nor the
Ford GTs used them, as Ford preferred to prove their point that plain old
pushrod Detroit iron could do the job. Which it did, of course.
