bare with me, most of this is copied and pasted from the original build thread on thelincolnforum.net

    and here we go!

Hola gents! my name is Alan Simmons, im a major lincoln enthusiast from down south in Georgia! Ive owned many lincolns in my short life allready at least 20+ most of them when sold went to very good freinds of mine and are still on the road!

I work for Property Damage Appraisors and I own a custom body shop South GA Customs so I stay pretty busy, in my travels I always keep my eyes pealed for possible projects and nice lincolns for sale. Well one of my areas that I frequent I drive by this place at least once aweek, and always seen this car from the road, in the last 2 1/2 years I never stoped! simply becouse I know that most people know that these cars can be worth quite a bit. Well this last friday I bit the bullet and stoped to find out. After only a 5 min conversation, I bought a 1962 Continental for the stagering amount of $300 dollars!!! I almost cried! here are some pics of my newest aquisition, and dont worry this is my dream car, I wont ever let this one go!

surprisingly this car is very solid, the interior is in tatters, and also someone put a late 60’s 460 running gear in, witch I plan to take out and sell for a more modern drivetrain, Plans for this car include full metal resto and custom paint (think smooth custom) air bags to lay it down low and period perfect astro supreme wheels with wide white walls

picked her up today! put some knockoff wires on it so I could get it out of the dirt and load it up, while it was jacked up I got a good look of the underside, wich is very solid, no rust through, full exhuast still intack and no driveshaft wich is another thing im not worried about. Got it rolling and my freind came and helped me out (hes the REPO man) he used his snatch truck to pick it up and push it up onto my trailer with the greatest of ease, the next 2 1/2 hrs was spent trailering this beast back to the shop wich was only 70 miles away, but we had stupid torrential monsoon craazy storm today and it stuck with me all the way there, 45 mph tops….IKK! so here are some pics of today, more will follow durring teardown and work!

did some tear down this weekend, got the trunk off, wich is so fat rusted nothing about it is salvageable, found a bunch of interior trim in the trunk along with the headliner (it was soaked and rotted) a few misc parts and a few years of debri on the bottom. After cleaning out the trunk I let it dry out, there is only some minor rot where the spare tire sat and a few other spots, im happy with the outcome of the trunk interior compared to the lid. As for the interior, I say its a bit better, of course the old carpet was N-A-S-T-Y!! YUK! :smt011 after cleaning everything out I found only 2 rot spots in the passenger frnt floor and one little one in the driverside. I also removed the window trim to inspect the metal there, and to my luck found solid metal! so yay! OH and WAIT! found me a box of clorets most likely from near the year of the car! made my breath the fire!! :dpuke: im hoping this coming sunday I will be doing some metal masaging to it working out the obvious bad spots, or removing that Horrid 460 those retards thought would fit right in 👿 oh OH! and speaking of 460 and retards, they blasted a chunk out of the frame to clear the PS pump!!! 😯 so thats another area that I get to fix! bah!!!! any way, I still love my new aquisition and plan on making it tops!

well I had a few extra mins to tinker with my toy today. got the rear parts pulled of and the trunk cleaned up along with the interior floor cleaned up. The extent of the rust damage isnt a worrie to me I plan to cut and patch all the rotted holes I find, then get some POR15 and put a good cover coat over everything in the trunk and in the interior floorboards, of course I will clean the under side and treat it as well. What I did find is at one time this car sufferd a right rear corner collision, wich pulled the bumper slightly out of alignment and someone cut and rewelded another quarter panal on off a white continental, the work is mediocre at best and I plan on cleaning it up and resealing all the welds as well.

    more pics of progress

Ya know you wake up in the morning and theres like 18 hrs of time you can work on something, why is it that you only end up with 1 hr at the most to work? 🙄 lol anyways a bit of progress, I got the front apart, wish someone told me the grill is satans child to take out….. 👿 still have the right rear door to take off, started on the minot repair work on the doors, got a monstor box of parts to be powdercoated together to take to the guy. Procured me a nice running 302 for it, going with a AOD so I can have OD on the interstate and hopefully got me some supremes on there way for it as welll.

    only a few pics

oh and if anyone is woundering about the filler, Thats STEEL filler from CAR systems, I used it on my hood as well, awesome stuff!

well my powdercoater guy sent me an email with a few pics of the first few parts I dropped off to him for my linc to get done. The powdercoat is singlestage chrome, while it dosnt come out just like chrome it does resemble a nicely polished billet aluminum look, wich I think will help distingquish my lincoln from many others that have been customized. This is only the tip of the iceberg for parts that will be done, I have a 200lb box full of parts thats going next weekend to him to be done as well.

    enjoy

lol he even did the bolts!! (dont worry the threads arnt done)

there were more pics but for some reason my photobucket wouldnt reconize them, basicaly the hood secondary latch and the ash trays

    hope you like them!

edit: got the last two to finaly download, the ash trays seemed to have dissapeared…..lol, oh well I’ll post pics when they come back through again!

well I have a lull in customer projects this weekend thanx to some custom paint NOT showing up….so…My little cuz helped me get my linc into the shop for some much needed attention! 😀

first things first….lets take care of that redneck bite mark in my frame….

I have a bad habbit of not taking pictures when I need to…. I did smooth out all the edges first…. then came my next problem…someone bogart’d my metal! so I had to peice the patch together, no biggie, it will be just as strong, just not as perfect…but oh well its a driver! 8)

so next…. onto the ac! and wiring box!! got those ripped out and a good thing to… MAN the inside of the ac box was NASTY! omg like influfreakinenzablackplauqe up in there! ewww city! :dpuke: then I got the elec box off… horry for lincoln enginers!! who decided that putting plug ins on the back of the box instead of having every wire in the whole car made into the fuse panel!! :smt006 Also the ac box is not going back in, going nice smooth firewall right there…..Vintage air or southern air for AC later.

then I busted out my mini mite 3 inch side grinder with 36 gritt roloc pads!! and got crazy! 😯

thats all for this sat. tomorow I plan on doing the body work to the front and getting the front clip including the engin bay in polyester primer!! more pics later!! 8)

got the front end in poly today, after doing some body work to it, the left fender had a bunch of scrape areas in the metal that I woked out, ending up sand almost most of the filler off, then onto the poly, I put half gallon up front equivalent to about 10 coats for primer other wise. Im done til the next opportunity arises to work on it! 8)

well the doors are almost done, since I work at a body shop durring my lunch and slow time, I got them all stripped the body work done and got the two front doors seamed up and in primer, im still working on fixing the rusted out portions of the rear doors then I will finish them off like the front doors. then they will be sealed from the inside with Por15 so they will last plus some bedliner sprayed in for sound deading.

I will be posting soon (in a week or so) some of the other “work” thats been going on…. 😈
